Everybody knows that paper is made out of trees. But when one looks at trees, one cannot imagine something as soft and fragile as paper is made out of something that is so hard and strong. Plant matter such as wood is made of fibres known as cellulose. It is the primary ingredient in papermaking. Raw wood is first converted into a pulp consisting of a mixture of cellulose, lignin, water, and some chemicals. The pulp can be made mechanically through grinders or through a chemical process.
