Q. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper complaining of waterlogging in some parts of your city during the rain.

Subject: Waterlogging in Some Parts of the City

Sir,

Let me voice the complaint of the suffering people, through the columns of your esteemed daily, about the chronic problem of waterlogging in some parts of our city during the rains.

The drainage system of many areas of Kolkata does not function properly, Whenever it rains heavily, the streets turn into streams of filthy water. Trams and buses stand motionless on the streets and the suffering of the passengers knows no bounds. Sometimes rainwater enters into the shops and houses causing a lot of trouble. It is a matter of pity that no integrated plan of work has yet been chalked out to tackle the problem. The KMDA has done a mere patchwork but has failed to provide any permanent remedy.

Under these circumstances, the government should take the necessary steps for solving the problem as early as possible.

Yours faithfully,

Q. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper complaining of large-scale deforestation in our country.

Subject: Large-scale Deforestation in our Country

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I venture to express my views against the indiscriminate felling of trees in our country.

In recent years there has been rapid deforestation throughout our country. We know that the forests play a role in protecting our precious soil and water resources, They are also helpful in causing rainfall and checking droughts. It is interesting to note that 33.3 percent of the land has to be preserved as forests in order to maintain the ecological balance. Moreover, we must not forget that trees bring rain and rain brings the harvest.

Hence I think that the government should take necessary measures to check the cutting down of the forests. Also at the same time, social forestry programmes should be given due consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Q. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper about the necessity of planting more trees in the country.

Subject: Necessity of Planting more trees

Please allow me to focus, through your esteemed daily, on the necessity of planting more trees in our country.

The Editor
The Telegraph
Kolkata 7000001

There is an eternal bond between men and trees. Trees help human beings and other living creatures in many ways. They supply oxygen to them. Trees give them food, fruits, fuel, timber, medicine, and many other useful things. They are also the harbingers of rain and check soil erosion. They give men shelter and shade. They protect the wildlife. Trees help men fight against environmental pollution. So we all must grow more trees and stop deforestation. We must care for trees for our own sake. We should not forget that the great scientist Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose proved that trees are living beings.

I hope that people from all quarters will come forward and take part in the plantation of trees and protect them to avoid the future perils of ecological imbalance.

Q. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper complaining about the late running of trains.

The Editor
The Statesman
Kolkata 700 001

Sub: Late Running of Trains

Sir,

Let me draw the attention through the columns of your esteemed daily, to the inconvenience caused to the people on account of the late running of trains.

It is a well-known fact that over the years late running of trains has become a regular affair. Consequently, the daily commuters are the worst sufferers. They are often late for offices, schools, and colleges. Many of them are compelled to cancel appointments and miss urgent pieces of business. Sometimes ailing patients cannot be hospitalized in time on account of the delayed running of the trains. The railways are virtually the arteries of suburban life and people have to depend on railway services almost at every step. In the case of the long-distance trains also, it is equally painful for the passengers. In spite of repeated assurances from the railway authorities, no improvement is in sight.

I hope that the authorities will come forward to mitigate the sufferings of the people by ensuring that trains would henceforth run maintaining time.

Yours truly,
