Essay on Adulteration

Nature grows things in their purest form for human consumption. Man, a greedy, cruel creature, adulterates pure natural products to satisfy his desire for more money, the inalienable property of the nation, regardless of the health of his brothers and the lives of the little ones.

Who can forget the hundreds of hapless victims of floods in Delhi and elsewhere due to adulterated mustard oil? The tragedy became mind-boggling when famous companies like Kanodia and Dhara were not left behind in the race.

These companies stated that they had not done it on purpose. If this claim is accepted, it would indicate negligence on their behalf, which is bad for those who have to suffer illness or death. We now have adulterated ghee, butter, turmeric, red chillies, dry ginger, gram flour, cornflour, coconut oil, sugar and other ingredients.

Even young, innocent children are not spared. Their toffees, chocolates and other delicacies are all adulterated. Are there laws against adulterators? There may be some in the book or paper, but it doesn’t seem to be on the market.
