These days Career counselling is becoming very popular. Counselling itself is very useful if provided by an expert or organization. As a result, we have student counselling, parent counselling, marital counselling, career counselling, counselling for alcoholics and drug addicts and smokers and others having some mental or other confidential problems.

However, I am reminded of a career counselling workshop that was held at our school for a week last month. Our school principal who inaugurated the workshop compared career choice to choosing a life partner. Both require a lot of observation and reflection.

The objective of the workshop was to study behavioural, personality and competence aspects under the supervision of an eminent psychologist. Experts from different subjects addressed the students in five groups. Each group’s reports were then handed over to a careers specialist who then spoke to the students. After that, A counselling tool was set up to provide individual counselling and information to the students for a week.
