How to Write a Personal Diary?

Diary Writing is something different from writing paragraphs, letters, reports, notices or even writing of biography.

  • Write the date, day, time and place at the top or at the left or right top corner.
  • Write usually in complete sentences and occasionally short sentences without subject or verb as in spoken English.
  • Writing should be brief and language must be catchy.
  • The approach is entirely personal and subjective. Therefore, first person ‘I’ is used.
  • Write correctly as you must not want that your errors are recorded.

Q.1 Write a page of your diary about how you observed ‘RABINDRA JAYANTI’ this year.

8th May 2021
Saturday

Yesterday a social function was arranged in our school on the occasion of ‘Rabindra Jayanti’. But since only a few of us got a chance to perform there, it was celebrated today in our classroom at the end of the school hours. The class dais was used as our stage. A photo of Tagore was garlanded. Then several students recited Tagore’s poems, some from memory and some with the help of books. A few boys and girls sang ‘Rabindra Sangeet’. Finally, the first boy of our class made an appealing speech revealing how relevant the life and letters of Tagore are in these days of jealousy, hatred, and distrust.

Q2. Write a page of your diary about your experience on the ‘TEACHERS DAY’ in your school.

5th September 2020
Saturday

Teachers’ Day was celebrated in our school today. We invited all the teachers to the Seminar Hall and garlanded them all. Then we gave small gifts to our teachers. They blessed all of us. We had also arranged a cultural programme in the hall. My friend Abhijit delivered a speech on the importance of the day. Everyone greeted him with claps. Our Headmaster also spoke on the occasion. He mentioned that the affectionate bond between the teachers and the students creates the future of the nation. I really enjoyed the day.

Today we enjoyed an interesting thing. It was in the fifth period. Surenbabu, our Physics teacher was taking his class. He explained the laws of expansion and contraction of matter in heat or cold. Then he asked some boys if they had understood the matter. They almost repeated what our teacher said. He suddenly noticed Nakul, the naughtiest boy in our class. He was gossiping with another boy. The teacher flared up. He asked Nakul to give an example of the expansion and contraction of matter. Nakul said, “It is easy, Sir. In summer the days are bigger for extreme heat and in winter the days are shorter for extreme cold.” All burst into laughter to hear his answer.

Q4. Write a page of your diary about ‘AN UNFORGETTABLE DAY’.

1st December 2020
Tuesday

A serious accident occurred before my very eyes. I was going to College Street to buy a book at about 2 p.m. A minibus was coming at break-neck speed along the M.G. Road. Suddenly it tried to overtake a bus ahead and knocked a teen-aged boy on the wayside. The boy fell down and was run over by the minibus. His body became a lump of flesh in a pool of blood. The angry mob set the minibus on fire. The police came to the spot and began the rescue operation and arranged to bring the boy to the Medical College Hospital. The pathetic sight moved the heart of some people, while it seemed to be quite an ordinary matter to others. However, I could not check tears in such a pitiful situation.

Q5. Write a page of your diary about A FAREWELL TO A RETIRED TEACHER.

31st July 2021
Saturday

The farewell ceremony of Sankarbabu, our beloved teacher, started at 2 pm at our school campus. His last class had been over and we had said farewell to him. We will no more see him solving problems on the blackboard. He could make Mathematics so easy and so interesting to us that it has become a myth. He is very popular for his gentle appearance and his love for his students. Our Headmaster and other teachers remembered his greatness in sharing their joy and sorrows just like a family friend. At last, our honourable Sir thanked us all, extending his good wishes. His parting words came to us as through a deep feeling of his heart. After thirty years of teaching thousands of students, he had to leave us. None can avoid this moment. But he will always be remembered as our friend, philosopher, and guide.
