Paragraph on Malaria

Malaria is a deadly disease. It was banished after the independence. But it is, of late, back with a vengeance. It is caused and spread by the bite of the female mosquito (called genus Anopheles). Its symptoms are headache, a sudden rise of temperature with shivering, recurrent temperature, vomiting, and sweating at the time the high temperature goes down. Malaria is treated mainly by quinine, a potent anti-malarial drug. Other effective anti-malarial drugs are chloroquine and modiaquine.

As no anti-malarial drug is free from side effects it is better to prevent than to cure it. If Malaria is to be prevented DDT should be sprayed on wetlands, rotten ponds, drains, and ditches to kill mosquitoes and their larvae. Stagnant water in any place should be drained away. People should be asked to use mosquito nets at night. They should be made aware of the dreadful consequences of malaria, and the bad side effects of anti-malarial drugs. (155 words)
