India got freedom on the auspicious day of August 15, 1947. On this day India got freedom from English rulers after their rule of over 200 years.

15th August is celebrated as the Independence Day of India. Since 1947, India has been celebrating and would continue to celebrate this day every year. This helps us to remember India’s freedom from foreign rule. On this day, the British left India and gave over the reins of the government to the national government of free India. This day marks the victories of those Indian patriots and nationalists who battled hard and sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their motherland.
People of our country celebrate this day every year with extraordinary energy and excitement, as it was the red letter day in the history of India. The principal program is celebrated at Red Fort in the capital of India, Delhi. On this propitious day, the Prime Minister of India hoists the Tricolor flag at the Red fort every year.
Our first and most memorable Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru started the celebration of this event on August 15, 1947, who had unfurled the tricolour National Flag at the Red Fort in the national capital, New Delhi for the first time.
Independence Day celebrations are of great importance. On this day, flags flutter on the highest point of all government offices. Night enlightenments are additionally organized. The buildings are illuminated with electric bulbs that create enchanting sight.
Like every year, this year also Independence Day was celebrated with extraordinary energy and excitement in my town. The Independence Day program was held in the University Hall. The Block Development Officer was the Chief Guest of the program. In the morning at 8 a.m. the national flag was hoisted at the University hall. The flag was unfurled by the Block Development Officer. All the honourable dignitaries and the people saluted the flag and sang the National Anthem.
After hoisting the flag cultural program was begun. students of various universities and schools participated in the program. Patriotic poems and songs were recited by the students. The school students walked out in a parade through the central avenues of the town with a band playing the National Anthem. People enjoyed flying kites which implies independence.
At the end of the program, the Block Development Officer gave a motivational speech. Different dignitaries gave speeches on the sacrifices of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Bhagat Singh, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Sukhdev, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Lala Lajpat Rai, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Chandra Shekhar Azad, and so on. who worked hard to get independence from British rule.
Similar celebrations are held in each city and town, schools, colleges and so on. After hoisting the flag cultural program was begun. students of various universities and schools participated in the program. Patriotic poems and songs were recited by the students. The school students walked out in a parade through the central avenues of the town with a band playing the National Anthem. People enjoyed flying kites which implies independence.
Overall, there was great enthusiasm among the people. People also enjoy kite flying on this day and as dusk began they leave the kites free to symbolise India’s freedom. Independence Day is the day which helps us to remember those patriots who fought and suffered to win freedom for us. Independence Day has extraordinary significance in the life of all citizens of our country.
People also made a vow to safeguard the freedom of the nation. This day, without a doubt, is perhaps one of the most important days in the history of free India. It is celebrated with extraordinary enthusiasm in each town and city of India and by also Indians in foreign countries.
